Charles Mincey

The Lake of the Woods Church monthly concert series, “Making Joyful Noise,” will feature “Charles Mincey & Friends” on Saturday, May 17, 7 p.m., in the Worship Center.

A soloist and member of the bass section of the LOWC Choir, Mincey has a mellow style suited to a wide range of musical selections. His great renditions bring him much acclaim and he is appearing by popular demand.

His “friends” include Pianists Kathy Pellegreen and Irene Robinson, and the Lakettes. And the Restoration Community Dance Ministry will perform a routine to the sound track of Luther B & New Foundations, “Shine Down.”

Mincey, originally from Emporia Va., is the youngest of eight children, born
into a family where everyone sings. He developed natural talents early by singing background harmonies and lead parts with family members as a way to entertain each other.

After graduation high School in 1965, he joined the Air Force, serving tours in Vietnam and Germany. He was accepted into the Air Force Band as a vocalist in 1974. Mincey completed tours of duty with the Tactical Air Command Band, Langley
AFB, Alaskan Air Command Band, Elmendorf AFB, Air Force Reserve Command Band, at Robbins AFB, Ga. He retired from duty while serving with the Air Force Band of New England at Pease AFB, NH.

Mincey sang at many high level command functions, performing music that included light opera, patriotic songs, big band standards and rock and roll. After retiring from the Air Force (24 years), he has performed mostly at special functions, weddings and in church choirs. He resides at LOW with wife Janice.

A reception will follow the concert.
